Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Search engine optimization, often referred to as SEO, is the practice of improving your organic website ranking in search engine results pages (SERP) when user’s search using phrases related to your business. In a nutshell, organic rankings are unpaid positions in search results. Being included in organic results means a search engine believes a website is among the most relevant to the user’s search.

Who Cares?

More home shoppers find builder websites via search engines, and most commonly Google, than any other method. See average home builder website traffic sources here. Because organic traffic does not have any direct costs on a per-click basis, search engine optimization can provide a significant amount of traffic and exposure for your website without the constant expense of pay-per-click exposure.

Best Use

Search engine optimization is a part of any comprehensive online marketing plan. A full use plan for search engine optimization is beyond the scope of this definition. Because organic traffic comes without a cost-per-click, it is best to target your search engine optimization efforts at your largest opportunities for relevant traffic, reserving your pay-per-click dollars for those lower traffic opportunities.
