What Happened at the 2018 Builders’ Show? #IBSOrlando

Each year, in the days following the International Builder Show, I rub my exhausted eyes and reflect on the conversations and connections I made and renewed there. This year was an especially exciting non-stop experience for ONeil Interactive, and it’s hard to imagine going bigger in 2019 — but we’re up for the challenge 🙂

Here are just some of the highlights…

IBStv

I was interviewed by the IBStv team about education sessions, sales central, and more. IBStv plays on the TV screens throughout the show floor, on BuilderShow.com, the IBS YouTube channel, and on the convention shuttle busses. Thanks to Tracy, Jennifer, and team for bringing me along for the fun!

Be Buzz-worthy Tech Byte

Megan English, our Director of Strategic Services, ‘edutained‘ the crowd; presenting “Be Buzz-Worthy. How One Builder Generated 1000’s of Leads using the Quiz Craze.” This was Megan’s first presentation at IBS, and it makes me especially proud to see members of our team being recognized for their expertise and skill.

The Nationals

I’ve not been to The Nationals in many years, but Adam and I could not miss the opportunity to cheer on our friends Quint Lears of NewHomesSales.com and Chris Hartley of Dunhill Homes, both nominated for the “One to Watch” award. Congratulations to Chris for bringing home the gold! And, of course, Quint recorded over 20 winner interviews to be shared later via an official NSMC channel.

Clash of The Titans

My participation in this session might be the highest highlight of all my IBS’s. I almost felt guilty because putting on this session with Will Duderstadt and Kevin Oakley was pure and effortless fun. The three of us took extreme positions on controversial marketing topics and had what some attendees described as an SNL-style debate that was equal parts parody, sarcasm, and uncomfortable truth. The crowd was loud, lively, and eager to cheer on their favorite… and hopefully they had as much fun as we did on stage.

Adam, Official IBS Vlogger and One to Watch finalist

Anyone who’s reached out to us in the last twelve months has spoken with Adam. And if you know Adam, you know of his unstoppable desire to be a resource. It’s no wonder NAHB asked him to be an official vlogger; recording and uploading his experience to be shared throughout the show on the IBS social channels. And it’s also no wonder he was a finalist for the NAHB Associates One to Watch Award. Big year Adam!

“Partnering with Brokers” Book Release

I was excited to pick up several copies of Quint Lears’s new book Partnering with Brokers to Win More Sales, published by Builder Books. I got to read an advance copy and I highly recommend it. Order yourself a copy right now at this link.

Dinner & Some Parties

Adam and I enjoyed brilliant conversation and Brazilian steakhouse fare with a new client, before heading off to the parties. I hit the Builder VIP party at B.B. King’s (thanks NewHomesDirectory.com) where I ran into tons of smart people from the Zillow new construction team. Adam headed off to the NAHB Young Professionals party next door.

Bringing it Home

It’s fitting that the final item on the IBS agenda was a cocktail reception at The Capitol Grille with our fellow Maryland Building Industry Association members.

The Future is So Very Bright

I’m excited by the big announcements ONeil Interactive has planned for this year, but my feelings about the future of our industry have never been more optimistic. The show, the ideas, and the opportunities have gotten bigger and better for several years now.

I hope we all speak sooner, but if not, I look forward to seeing all my new friends at PCBC, the Jeff Shore Sales Summit, or at #IBS2019 in Las Vegas!

Fantastic recap Dennis. I also enjoyed this year’s IBS – my second year going. I learned from so many great educational sessions. Plus the vendors that come are top notch! Wishing you, Adam, and the whole team a wildly successful 2018!

Thanks Jonathan! And great point about the vendors — I rarely get to spend as much time on the floor as I’d like, but the quality and volume of products on display are tremendous.

What a nice compilation of some of my fondest #IBS2018 memories! Thank you for the reminder. One of the most fun sessions had to be the GREAT debate, followed by Megan and Dennis’s infotainment seminar.
