The ONeil Edit – September 11, 2020

First, I can’t let today’s post happen without acknowledging the significance of today. I remember exactly where I was as the events unfolded and, 19 years later, I still cry a little on this day every year. A tough intro to transition out of, but one that I felt was important to mention.

This week was a quick one and a busy one as my two middle school aged daughters resumed virtual learning for the new school year and I had what seemed like a record amount of meetings. But fear not, I still read all the things so I could share with you what I think are the top 3 pieces of information from the week as it pertains to web design and development and digital marketing.

The first one actually came through over the weekend and I nearly missed it. Microsoft Ads has integrated LinkedIn Ads targeting. This is exciting news for Business to Business ad targeting. Business people and regular people alike, use Bing to search but without the LinkedIn targeting, there was no way to assure a business was only reaching business people in their ads. A use case for home builders would be running a campaign specifically targeting Real Estate agents.

In news that will make search advertising slightly more challenging, Google has decided to start limiting the visibility for some search query data. Specifically, if it’s got a low search volume, Google will now withhold that data, making it more challenging to stay on top of negative search terms which have increased in importance over the years.

Finally, a bit of real estate specific news: the unemployment rate fell to 8.4% in August and “The real estate sector of the economy, including rental and leasing, saw a huge spike, adding 23,000 jobs from July to August.” Good news that will hopefully add to the continued success of home sales in this economy.

Thanks for reading and be sure to tune in to next week’s Homefiniti and Beyond where we discuss web payments to enable buying a home online and what we think the Fall will bring in the new home market.
